Has the Decatur mayor spoken out in favor of the climate accord, joining Kasim Reed and the other 68 or so mayors around the country? What can we do here in Decatur to show support?

I hereby express my support for other people reducing their carbon emissions.

Turn off your air conditioner, don’t drive your car, take yourself off the electrical grid, etc.

Don’t expect that to happen . Based on other requests made before the commission, that would be termed “political”. Apparently we do not want to make political statements

That’s interesting. What are the other instances of this happening? I haven’t heard anything about it.

Hi everyone – I’m in the market for a chicken coop large enough to hold 4-6 chickens. Any suggested models or designs? I’ve spent a few hours researching options online, and I’m amazed at the number of coops that receive mediocre (at best) reviews. I can’t find any that receive uniformly positive reviews. Suggestions welcomed!

There are some coops available at retail stores (Tractor Supply, etc.), but most people end up building their own. Craigslist may also be an option. Check out backyardchickens dot com for ideas and plans. We made the floor height at waist level to make cleaning easier – definitely recommend this.

This is not really helpful, but . . .

Why does a chicken coop have two doors?
Because if it had four, it would be a chicken sedan.

Does anyone remember when Church Street was widened from a 2 lane to a 4 lane road?
      I think 1981 or 1982.

Thanks for asking Zed. If you Google “last episode of TV Mash” you find the date where the commission cited to widen Church. As I recall, this was part of the deal for a developer to build the structure at the corner of Ponce and Church. A few days later, it was reported in the local paper (maybe DeKalb Extra) that no one spoke against the proposal before the vote.

Chris, love the way your memory works.
Last episode of Mash aired Feb 28, 1983 so the road was widened at the end of 83 but more likely 1984
Thank you for the info and the Mash connection

            Thanks Zed III.
I didn’t attend the commission meeting because, like most of Decatur, I was watching Mash. But I could make up a pretty good speech of what I would have said: “Commissioners, I am here this evening to defend the historical integrity of Church Street. I must remind you that in 1864… (meaningless blah, blah, blah)

Sorry Zed. I wasn’t quite finished but for some unknown reason, it posted. Blame it on Trump I guess.
What I was going to add was that the road construction started promptly, maybe the next year. The work finished quickly. The only controversy was removal of some nice trees in front of the older apartments now condos on Church near the pool. Several were removed and planted elsewhere. I don’t think any of the replanted trees survived long but it was a nice gesture.
I do remember that the road widening was no big deal. Unlike today, there were no angry citizens at commission meetings or blog post dramas. The surrounding neighborhoods of Great Lakes and Glenwood were not in affected by the project. They had other ways of moving in and out of the neighborhood. And the Church Street neighborhood (?) didn’t have any real power. Unlike today (insert smiley face).
