    Porchfest Monday: 100+ and Counting!

    Decatur Metro | July 25, 2016 | 10:02 am

Every time we think we’ve got a working definition of the word amazing, the hosts and musicians of the Oakhurst Porchfest step it up a notch.

How so? In the first seven days of our 2016 registration we’ve already amassed 100+ porches and 100+ musicians. 100+!

So how’s it coming together? Not surprisingly, we’re seeing a fair amount of Americana and other folky forms of traditional porch music. But that’s by no means the whole of it.

For example, check out Lola Cole, whose Mississippi Blues roots and native Georgia soul give rise to what she describes as “the voice of God and freedom.” And this video from Eddie Owen Presents makes pretty clear she ain’t lyin’.

There’s still time, of course, to get on board. If you’ve got an Oakhurst porch and want to join the fray, click here. And if you’re a musician who wants to give the gift of your talents to thousands of grateful neighbors, you can do that here.

One note about music. We had great variety last year and would love to build on that this Fall. So if you know people in electronica, hip-hop, jazz, pop or any other genres not immediately associated with porches, give ‘em a shout and let them know. Porchfest will only be better with an even more diverse array of musical styles and approaches.

Thanks to everyone who’s jumped on board. Spread the word and let’s keep the momentum going.
