U.S. News and World Report has released its yearly rankings of public high schools based on data from the 2013-14 school year.

Decatur High School ranked #403 nationally and #13 in the state of Georgia, based on U.S. News’ methodology. DHS received a Gold rating from U.S. News with this summary description…

Decatur High School is ranked 13th within Georgia. Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement® coursework and exams. The AP® participation rate at Decatur High School is 78 percent. The student body makeup is 50 percent male and 50 percent female, and the total minority enrollment is 45 percent. Decatur High School is the only high school in the Decatur City.

Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology in Lawrenceville ranked #1 in Georgia, followed by Columbus High School in Columbus, GA and DeKalb School of the Arts rounded out the top 3 GA High Schools.

Shouldn’t the headline say 13th in the state?

I think the title of the article is incorrect – DHS is #13 in GA, not #33.

It is incorrect in the headline and first paragraph. It is 13th, not 33rd.

        Yes of course. Apologies.

Yes, looks like #13 out of 447 high school in the state. Then #403 out of over 21000 High Schools in the country. That looks pretty good!! Good job Decatur High! Interestingly, other good High Schools nearby were listed as “unranked”. E.g. Grady High, Drew Charter, Druid Hills High, Lakeside High…… Did those schools just choose not to participate in the report?

Observation: Schools #1-#5 on the list are magnet schools or have a selective admission process. (my understanding is that Columbus High School is primarily a by-admission magnet for the Columbus school system, despite the casual sounding name — this according to GT students I’ve taught who went there).

Not a gripe, but I think schools with a selective admission process or magnet/focus should be ranked separately (I don’t know — an “elite” category?)

Please keep typo. No need to attract any more positive attention to CSD.
