Decatur Selects Roads for Repaving in 2015

    Decatur Metro | July 20, 2015 | 11:21 am

    College Place

Every year, GDOT’s Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant provides matching funding to repave some of Decatur’s streets.  Here’s the list of the five streets that have been selected this year…

    • Fairview Street
    • Lenore Street (between Sycamore and Lockwood Tr)
    • Springdale Street
    • Vidal Boulevard
    • West Hill Street

80% of the roads selected are north of the city and only 1 road to the south.
Hopefully one day the other quadrants will received the same attention.

I know, it doesn’t see “fair,” but life’s generally not fair. For example, take a look at where CSD schools are situated. Elementaries are pretty much neighborhood schools, and the high school and middle school are centrally located within town. But – College Heights for pre-K and the 4/5 are in the southern half of town. In fact, they are pretty far down south in the southern half of town. That’s not fair, either, but over the years and through a series of various decisions, that’s what ultimately happened. As someone on the north side of town, I’m ok with that (although the fact that CH is so far away from us made it that much easier to stay at our preschool for pre-k – it’s that far away!).

Are there two Lenore Streets? The one I know is in Oakhurst between McDonough and Adams south of McKoy park (and in dire need of repaving, with a collapsed trench running down the middle of it).

If that’s what’s being repaved, it would bump up that south-of-the-Dequator percentage to a more-equitable 40%

They all need re-paving and This is from someone who drives a Jeep made for off road. its not just here in DEC. either. All of the roads around metro ATL seem to be in poor condition.

Springdale is between Sycamore and Lockwood Tr., not Lenore.
