Daisy Duke more popular than Scarlett O’Hara? As much as I deplore both characters, Scarlett is the obvious choice for fictional character from Georgia. Whoever created this map may want to note that, adjusted for inflation, Gone With The Wind remains the all-time movie box office champ.
As for my own choice, I’d have to think about it, but it may well be a very recent one: Daniel from the series Rectify (season 3 of which begins tomorrow night on Sundance).
Speaking of Rectify: Was going to include this link in MM, but decided to save for tomorrow. But since you mentioned it.

The Bitter Southerner is proving to be a great read. And Rectify is soooo good — Ted Jr. in particular was a revelation last season.
This is indeed a strange map. Popular according to who? The only 3 state characters that seemed possibly plausible as most popular were Dorothy for Oklahoma, Yogi Bear for Wyoming, and Barney Fife for North Carolina.
I suppose Forrest Gump makes sense for Alabama (though I’m sure To Kill a Mockingbird fans would differ).
Interesting that on this silly map they got all technical and put the Rick Grime’s character from The Walking Dead in what I presume is supposed to be his birth state.
I’m sure it was just a typo but Dorothy is from Kansas. 🙂
Of course! “Toto, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Oklahoma any more. ” just doesn’t have the same ring to it.
