Tin Drum Moves From Emory Village to North Druid Hills Road

    Decatur Metro | January 9, 2014 | 9:13 am

A new post on Tomorrow’s News Today reminded me that my wife had mentioned to me over the weekend that Tin Drum in Emory Village looked to be closed.  (I wonder what else I’ve forgotten that she’s told me recently!)  Anyway, according to TNT, Tin Drum will move north a bit…

Wisely choosing not to leave the intown Emory area completely, Tin Drum will reopen in a new location, about 3.5 miles away, at 2566 Briarcliff Road.  The new location is in a new center, the Village at Druid Hills.  Tin Drum will join Willy’s Mexicana Grill (expected to open in May) and Newk’s Eatery (opening timetable unknown) as dining options in the center.   A freestanding Mattress Firm and in-line Sprint store have already opened and will soon be joined by a nail salon and Sport Clips hair salon.

My favorite part of this post is that we are getting a Newks near Decatur!

Not great that it’s moving farther from Decatur. But the parking was always so terrible at Emory Village I guess this is good.

Perhaps the bigger news in the area is that Loehmann’s is closing all of its locations, including Loehmann’s Plaza. Liquidation sale starts today.

Shocking. A world without Loehmanns. That may sound snarky but I’m serious. Loehmannocalypse! I’m bereft.

Been around since 1921. Not sure how long the Loehmann’s Plaza location has been there.

I think Loehmann’s Plaza was a farm meadow until the early 1980s so it couldn’t have been there much more than 30 years. Long enough to depend on it! I liked that Loehmann’s but it didn’t carry long warm winter coats like the Loehmanns stores up North. Loehmanns up there was THE place to buy a name brand stylish $400 long wool coat for $79.

If that location was anything like the one on Broad Street Downtown, I would prefer they relocate to Afgahanistan.

I never understood why they opened across the street from Doc Chey’s.

Me too, and I’m sure they are breathing a sigh of relief that they outlasted them.

It was the same cost to eat there as Doc Chey’s and nowhere near as good. I just hope they put something there BESIDES another pizza place. I wish Burrito Art would come back.
