No Stimulus Funding For Fire Station No. 1
Decatur Metro | June 21, 2010 | 1:21 pmFrom a letter to the Decatur City Commission from City Manager Peggy Merriss regarding future financing of capital improvement projects (page 73 of materials)…
Last week we were notified that our grant application for using stimulus funding to renovate Fire Station No. 1 was not selected so we will also be looking at what options exist for completing those improvements as well.

Don’t forget that the City Manager intends for the City Commission TONIGHT at their meeting to take the first steps (approving expenditures to pursue financing) to increase your property taxes via a new bond issue to pay for the new Rec Center and Public Works facilities.
This action does not obligate the Commission to issue the bond, but it does take the first step towards that goal and authorizes the City to pursue financing and spend money doing so.
If you think there are too many issues and unanswered questions about why this new tax increase is necessary when we were promised that the 2006 bond would take care of these matters and want to quash this effort before it gets started, then I suggest you attend the City Commission meeting at 7:30 tonight, particularly now that it looks like Fire Station #1 financing is in trouble as well. They may want to wrap that into the bond too.
Important stuff people!
I looking forward to hearing the commissioners’ opinions on this subject tonight. Hopefully everyone is fully versed at this point.
