Brick Store Pub – #6 Beer Bar in the World 2010
Decatur Metro | January 30, 2010 | 10:46 amDown a place from last year, Decatur’s Brick Store Pub ranked as the 6th best beer bar in the world for 2010 on RateBeer’s annual list. Amongst U.S. beer bars, BSP was second only to Redlight Redlight in Orlando (#4 in the world) for the second year in a row.
The other Atlantan on the list is HopCity Craft Beer & Wine at 1000 Marietta Street, which ranked 23rd in the world among beer retailers.
Amongst the best brewers in the “world” – from an American perspective – Three Floyds came out on top, while new-to-Georgia Founders came in 4th, a place ahead of another relatively Georgia newbie Bell’s.
The best individual beers list for 2010 can be found here. I won’t even pretend to know what I’m taking about with that list.

I just don’t get it. Went once-place was loud, crowded, food was way average, beer was overpriced, service was surly at best.
Oh man, you went on Surly Hipster Night–it helps to give a place multiple tries before you declare it’s not good enough for surly hipsters.
Best time for BSP is either right when they open–it helps to have a cute kid with you, or after lunch.
Cheers to BSP!
Or lunch. It’s really about the beer, and if you’re not into that then a great beer pub won’t impress. The selection is stellar, each served in the right glass. Hard to compare prices on beers you can’t find elsewhere. The whiskey selection is also amazing. I’ve always had friendly, attentive service myself.
So I just started Love at the Pub, and the author mentions an old bank vault under the square being used by BS owners as a beer cellar. She says that she won’t talk about that in the book. (“I’m not going to talk about this really cool amazing thing you’ve never heard of before …”) Is this Decatur urban legend or is there really such a thing?
C’mon!
Now THAT is beautiful. What a fun project.
To each his own, of course. But some of the beers are very expensive anywhere, it’s not that the BS is marking them up too much. These are craft beers that are expensive to make and distribute.
Then again, the BS is sometimes — maybe usually — very crowded. So if you don’t like it, spread the word. Easier for me to get a seat at the bar.
Well, AMB, more for the home folk, as my Dad used to say.
It’s crowded because it is great, it is loud because people like to talk. And the beer is in NO WAY overpriced. I am always amazed at what they can offer these rare and expensive beers for. If you want cheap beer, there are plenty of options for you. Like Hooters.
Incidentally, BSP is the #2 beer bar in the world on the more informed Beer Advocate ranking.
I’m sure Redlight Redlight is a charming place but when you walk out of there you are still in Orlando.
Looks like we have another local entry of note over in Athens (The Trappeze Bar). Anybody know anything about this place? Might be worth a road trip…
yep, a beer (or three) at trappeze and dinner next-ish door at farm 255 would be worth a road trip for sure. trapeze was clearly modeled after the bsp, but plays second fiddle by a long shot. they take their beer seriously: see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6p9MTtRupvo
Trapeze is great. It’s the closest thing to the Brick Store that Athens has. Lots of good beers, and of course- busy.
