Road Conditions Open Thread – Thursday
Decatur Metro | February 13, 2014The roads this morning are likely to be even slicker today than they were yesterday. But now that the storm has passed and temps will get up into the 40s today, it’s likely that folks will begin asking about road conditions. So here’s your spot to do that!

I drove in to work from Oakhurst to downtown Atlanta this morning at 7. The roads are all solid ice covered in snow, with the exception of Dekalb Ave. having some tire tracks to follow.
What kind of boss made you drive in to work today?
Brain surgeries don’t perform themselves, Bulldog.
Kidding.
I work for Hitler.
The roads are fine, just slushy. Just don’t drive like a fool and stay in the well-traveled lanes. I drove from the the Square down Ponce into Buckhead/Midtown without any problems.
My biggest problem was that slush would accumulate in my wheel well and freeze as I drove, essentially chocking my wheels as I was driving. Just be aware of that.
My biggest problem coming home from work last night was the kids playing in the road that did not move when a car was coming. Brakes don’t work on the ice, kids. Be smart and move out of the way!
Main streets in Decatur are bare or slushy and drivable. Residential streets are slushy except in the high tree canopy areas where they still have some hard pack underneath water–could be slippery. Everything is wet but walkable.
That’s a tremendous photo of a little-known Winnona Park landmark, the yellow kit jeep. That ridiculous and unsightly piece of crap has been in that same spot, never moved, for years. Maybe decades. Since the WP old-timers have moved away or departed this mortal coil, the origin of the lemon-yellow monstrosity has been lost to the ages, but I’m grateful that in this town where so much changes so fast, some things are unchanged (except for the effects of mildew and dry rot).
That’s so funny! My wife and I just moved to the neighborhood and I have a blue ’85 CJ7. I drive by that house all the time wondering if he (or she) ever drives it! I want to be friends with them so we can trail ride and work on jeeps together! Good to know I’m not going crazy in thinking it hasn’t moved since we got here.
At least the front door of the house matches the Jeep color!
Well, you might think it’s unsightly but it does serve a purpose. It helps slow down the speeders who use Shadowmoor as a cut through to South Candler, often flying through the third stop sign just before Shadowmoor intersects Inman. As a neighbor, I’d rather have the Jeep than the speeders.
Just drove from Decatur to Midtown via Scott, Ponce, Piedmont, and Tenth. No problems whatsoever. A few spots where folks are only using one lane, but otherwise perfectly ordinary.
