Trash Amnesty (aka Neighborhood Clean Up) Days are Upon Us!
Decatur Metro | March 19, 2013As Commissioner Patti Garrett mentioned at the end of the Decatur City Commission meeting last night, Spring Neighborhood Clean-Up Days start this weekend. Oakhurst you are up first, so call up your neighbors to get that giant, defunct attic fan to the curb!
No liquids, dirt, bricks, blocks, stone, rocks, concrete or motor vehicle batteries/parts!
Basically everything else is fair game.

Weird how we love to accumulate stuff and at the same time it’s so exciting to get to throw it away. I heart super trash day.
Have spent 40 years trying to figure out which makes me happier, acquiring new stuff or getting rid of what I already have, i.e., whatever shall I buy with my yard sale profits? It’s a first-world dilemma, like potato chips vs. ice cream.
Jimmy Fallon solved the potato chip vs. ice cream dilemma.

did anyone else notice that when you click on the PDF link it says “Party Menu Floral Design?” seems like an odd name for trash amnesty information.
Here’s an opportunity for points in two categories, Trash and Technology: Took the satellite dish off the side of the house (TV wants to be free) but the cables go up inside the frame and I’d rather not fool with disassembling it to get it untethered. Is it only good for a birdbath now anyway, and so reasonable to just snip it loose? Or could somebody use it as intended (and would they want to) if I take the time to disassemble & disconnect? (It’s about 10 years old, weathered, but was working perfectly when I cancelled the service a couple of months ago.)
If it is 10 years old, it is old technology and not worth the saving as a dish. However, I have seen some lovely sedum planters made from satellite dishes. Nice shape and shallow drainage works great for sedums.
It was working just fine with the new technology in the house.
My dish was working too. But the tech guy said it was old technology and they didn’t want it back. Everything now is HD. It’s all voodoo to me anyway.
DirecTV laughed at me when I asked if they wanted the dish back. But they were ready to put me under the jail if I didn’t ship the receiver back in the specified time frame.
My favorite day of the year.
My question is, who do I call to get the satellite dish off my roof? It’s too high for us to handle. Roofer? Handyman with a tall ladder? Slingshot? Shotgun?
