I got this email fron the Oakhurst Neighborhood Association. Where exactly is the Oakview Grocery Store? Is that the Hop N Shop on Oakview and Eastlake? Is it really named the Oakview Grocery Store?

It’s down at Oakview and 2nd Ave. Little tiny place.

More importantly, why am I finding out about it now? I live down the street and had no idea. Similar situation with the muggings in both Oakhurst park and in front of Kavarna.

Thanks Decatur Metro, because reading this blog gives me the news others apparently don’t see fit to print.

The Oakview Grocery has always been kind of a neighborhood eyesore. In the past couple of weeks, however, it seems like it is under new management/ownership and changes were being made such as a more open layout, the attendants not enclosed behind bulletproof glass, the front door propped open on mild days.

I was hoping that this “new attitude” might actually lead to a better product line and carrying things that the neighborhood actually might need.

I hope that this incident does not cause them to go back to the way they were doing things before. If it does, that is unfortunate.

If you live in Oakhurst, I highly recommend getting to know the ONA – Oakhurst Neighborhood Association (oakhurstga.org). In addition to being in the know about neighborhood goings-on, you can also sign up for email alerts from ONA and Decatur PD. They’re very helpful in situations like this.

    Thanks Decatur Metro.

I moved onto 4th last year and the few times I have been to Oakview Grocery it has seem to me to be nothing but beer and lottery tickets style bodega. If it has changed hands and the new owners are changing it, then it would be a welcome change.

@oakhurst black and red – I dont think that anything that isnt new and shiny is an eyesore, but anything that makes me uncomfortable to shop at is not an asset. What do you purchase from there on your frequent visits?

It is located on the corner of Oakview and Second Ave.

Is everything that’s not new and shiny really an eyesore?

I take it oakhurst black and red you have never visited Oakview Grocery.

Uncomfortable to shop at? Wow. Now think about whether everyone who lives in this neighborhood is comfortable shopping or eating at every business in this neighborhood. My point is, its not as simple as; everything new = good and everything old = bad. And that holds whether we’re talking about businesses, length of time people have lived here, etc.. Your lack of humility blows me away.
