Maybe this is some annoyingly brilliant move to get more people on bikes up there, because that’s probably what’s likely to happen at least in the short term. Since this idiotic bill is going nowhere and they’re getting nothing but great PR for their pristine rides and roads, they couldn’t have planned a better free bike tourism campaign if they tried.

A simple “rules of the road” quiz would do it.

I am not in favor of registering bicycles per se because most cyclists have several if not a collection of bicycles. Maybe a “license” could be issued and transferable from bike to bike.

Proposers may envision a little metal plate with numbers that attaches to the seat, which any adult cyclist would be totally embarrassed to have on “their” bicycle. Plus it would increase wind resistance, the bane of bike riders. On the other hand, think of the vanity plate possibilities.

Agree that it sounds like a revenue move, but it’s probably simple harassment like the rest of this tacky proposal.
