Stanley’s never made it to the pound on his own. But I lived on the other side of town when we first adopted him and we used to take him to the Oakhurst dog park, which was about a mile from the house. He got out of the yard one day and ran straight there. Within 10 minutes, he was at the front gate, whining for someone to let him in. I’ll admit, I was a little proud of that feat

He’s also a good tracker. He can sniff out chipmunks, moles and rabbits and he’ll dig and dig until he gets them. The funny thing is, I don’t think he ever wants to “kill” anything. In fact, he usually looks very sad and disappointed when whatever he catches stops making cool squeaky noises.

Hmmm. . . possible parentage could be Irish setter. We’ve had two setter/lab mixes that were gorgeous white chested labs with delicate, elegant setter features and terrific personalities. Good luck on securing your babe. Labs are notorious wanderers. Ours used to go to the pound to get a ride home. We’d pay the fine plus the taxi fare (back in the 70s)

I was thinking the same thing. Our dog is completely useless vis-a-vis actually killing the varmints. He’ll bark at ‘em like the Apocalypse is nigh, but if one turned tail & came back at him, he’d probably faint dead away.

I’m so, so happy y’all found Stanley!! I also laughed at the comment about how ppl shouldn’t worry about you if you drive down their street over and over and over while looking for Stanley!
