If we are just talking about paying a bill, I wonder if this is something one of the downtown convenience stores could take over? I know some convenience stores process such payments. I assume they charge a small fee.

As I said, most of the people who were there during my monthly visit, and there were always some, were there to make payment arrangements, start or restore service, and most of those paying bills were doing so with cash. My visits were by choice to do something I could have done online; those folks were there because, in some cases, they wanted or needed face-to-face contact.

Twice in the last 2 years, I have found that I could get things done at the GP office in person that were not possible with their website, or took longer when talking to an operator. And I was in and out sometimes in under 2 minutes.

Their online web process is designed for “I am moving from address A to address B – switch my power bill accordingly.” Anything outside that model (e.g., “my tenant is moving out, do not turn off the power, and please start billing me”) may require human intervention.

I will miss the quick walk convenience. But yes – not a frequent occurrence. I’d much rather see more retail there!

And paying a power bill in person isn’t (or probably shouldn’t be) a frequent occurrence.
