I guess. It’s a community service club, sponsored by the Civics teacher(s), that takes an annual trip to D.C. to learn about government and visit the key D.C. institutions and memorials. It does a lot of fundraising to make sure that all students who want to attend can do so, regardless of family resources. But a lot of its students are participating in the community service even though they do not need funding support.

That’s my daughter, Hannah Boykin, peeping over a shoulder – 4th from the left. She made and sold scarves, baby sat and did whatever she could to raise the funds to cover the cost of the trip. Proud of her and lots of thanks to whoever bought a scarf or helped her out. It was a good lesson for her – sometimes you have to work hard for something you really want.
