The is/was a house along the RR tracks, sort of across the tracks from the Y that had a turkey farm of sorts. You’d see the turkeys on various streets at various times. We moved to Decatur in ’07 so I can’t speak to whether it’s still there.

In the early 2000’s they went through a period where they coverged in my yard on Clifton Rd near Oxford everyday around 5pm and waddle accross the street to roost in a large oak tree. I have no idea why we were “chosen”. You knew the time by the sound of slowing cars and honking horns. That was also the signal for our dog Guinness to go absofreakin turkey-crazy.

My favorite silly memory of this was the lady who came to the door, pushy & agitated, asking if “those” were my turkeys. I said no, ” they just show up here” and her reply was “well they’re blocking traffic, can you put them in your fence?” ( I guess she didn’t know that turkeys fly)

While Guinness was slobbering with anticipation, I looked up and noticed her minivan blocking the street. I said, pointing at her car and grinning, “actually I don’t don’t think it’s *these* turkeys that are blocking the street…”

She stomped off the porch and back to her car. Heheheh.
