It was a very full agenda last night. On another front, the commissioners also approved a PUD subdivision/ zoning map amendment application for the property located at 1004 Clairemont Avenue. The “conversation” about the appropriate use of this acreage has been going on for seven years with the current developer and about five years prior to his involvement. Decatur will soon have seven new “cluster style” homes located on what is currently the wooded property behind three historic homes on the southern side of the Clairemont Avenue Historic District.

Does anyone else have a heavy heart going into tonight? I feel like Decatur is never going to be quite the same again… If the Commission opts to pursue annexation, I’d like to believe that they’ll at least insist on letting the affected residents in the proposed areas have their say by way of vote. My worry is that they won’t. And if they don’t, what does it say about us that they’d think that would be alright?
