I think the point is that a dog treat bakery and a dog food store are analogous to a cupcake shop and a food market, a la Sugar Moon Bakery and the Oakhurst Market. Nobody questions close proximity of niche businesses catering to treats and food for humans so why for dogs?

not even close in your comparisons, your comparing Mexican restaurants to gourmet pet food stores? whats next comparing pizza places vs. bikram yoga studios , No one is jumping to conclusions stating an opinion based on the specialty of the business and its proximity to something very similar oh and wishing them the best…we will agree to disagree, this is nonsense to discuss…

Not to mention…there are 2 Mexican restaurants IN SIGHT of each other in Oakhurst Village. I think many would question how that can work.

Plus it seems like this place and Taj-Ma-Hound are going to be doing separate things really. A dog bakery and small boutique is very different than a full scale pet supplies store…bakery=no cat stuff, no food, no self-serve bath…it would be like saying there shouldn’t be a bakery near a grocery store because they both sell baked things…or there shouldn’t be an Italian restaurant next to UJ because they both sell food.

People shouldn’t jump to conclusions when they don’t really even know what the business is going to be like yet. Wish em the best!

Last I checked this was an open forum/blog to comment, your right(not there target market) I don’t understand why you would have 2 niche businesses 1/2 mile apart from each other, doesn’t make sense (business or otherwise) to me and I am sure many others….hopefully I am proven wrong so I wish them all the business and fortune in the world….

If you need to ask if there is a need, then you are obviously not in the target market. If you have a pet you are probably still vaccinating your dog every year, and feeding your dog kibble from Petsmart that gets recalled twice per year. If someone is trying to open a business and you aren’t interested, why comment at all? What about Thai Garlic, Ace Hardware, Thumbs Up Diner ?

video store, book/comic book store, record shop, small drug store, small hardware, small coop grocery, community music/art/meeting space. not saying any of these are happening, or that there’s necessarily enough space for some of these, just throwing out a wish list.
