Perhaps they should have said it occurred at a Decatur address, in 30030, on a short street that is partially in the COD and partially in unincorporated Dekalb County, and less than 1/2 mile from COD school Winnonna Park Elementary.

This kind of concern over the COD reputation being tarnished - rather than concern for the many children - both COD residents and nonresidents alike - in the immediate area of the abduction is ridiculous and revealing.

But if it's truly your main concern, you could consider emailing the COD about putting up city limit signs on Oldfield and Midway - or perhaps "leaving COD" signs so that the media isn't so confused.

"But if you don’t want Decatur Police to receive tips because the media is misrepresenting who should be contacted, hopefully the next abduction attempt will occur on the portions of midway and/or oldfield that are on the other side of the line."

That's a ridiculous comment that should have been moderated. I'm not suggesting, nor are others, that Decatur Police or residents not receive tips. All I said was that is annoying - and not factual - to report that an abduction attempt "occurred in Decatur" when it actually occurred outside the city limits. It would be accurate to report that an "abduction attempt occurred in Dekalb County near the City of Decatur limits." There is a big difference.

Looks like the operative phrase there is "very close." Reports like this are misleading and paint a bad picture of the City of Decatur.

"saw her home’s value grow from $700,000 to $1.7 million."

Unbelievable, I can't bite my tongue any more. This may be out of line, but since all we can do is speculate, I'm wondering if the wealthier South Dekalb enclaves and mansions owners there are seeing these kinds of assessments?

Worth mentioning, yesterday there was a piece in the AJC about Dekalb potentially having to fork over a $70 million payout, and obviously DCSS is incredibly poor shape. Now we're supposed to believe that the timing of all these wonky assessments are a coincidence? The more likely explanation is they were just testing the water to see who they could get away with screwing. I would hate to see Dekalb implode, but without some sort of outside intervention, it seems like that's where they're headed. I wouldn't mind seeing Gov. Deal getting some sort of committee together and going through Dekalb with a fine tooth comb. No one in the county government seems to have the will to address the chaos.

"Do what I do – send them an email and call their bluff."

I don't understand this comment. They are reporting where the incident took place and where the pursuit is concentrated--both Decatur. That the incident began on one side of the city limits or another hardly matters. After all, the Decatur police don't stop their pursuit at the border when chasing criminals fleeing from the city. Frankly, emails like you suggested are probably mocked by those who receive them.

I don't see what difference it makes if it is just outside the city limits. Both agencies would likely be involved in the pursuit. I doubt whoever was allegedly trying to abduct a child knew which side of the city limit line he was on.

My point is that this is very close to the city limits and I would hope that both Decatur and Dekalb would be involved. To even get to that location, the alleged abduction-attempter likely had to drive through the city limits. Candler in that vicinity and parts of both Midway Road and Oldfield are in the city limits. But if you don't want Decatur Police to receive tips because the media is misrepresenting who should be contacted, hopefully the next abduction attempt will occur on the portions of midway and/or oldfield that are on the other side of the line.

Do what I do - send them an email and call their bluff.
BillyGoat, if it's DeKalb police, it's not in the City and we need to see that the news outlets understand that.
BTW, channel 11 noon news did say that DeKalb and Decatur were both patrolling the area and showed a Decatur police car on the street (different color - point that out to the news media also).
