People want a voice and they haven’t had one in any meaningful sense in DeKalb County for a long time.

Because, if the CEO wants to have a debate about how cities are created, he need to look no farther than the last 40 years of history. Basically, the city of Atlanta, Fulton County, DeKalb, etc. blocked Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, etc. from incorporating for 30 years with procedural moves requiring ‘local legislation’ to be approved by the local delegation. The areas in any proposed city and their fate were 100% controlled by legislators outside of the city. They had literally 30 years to come up with a ‘fair’ process. However, they didn’t want cities…they wanted to protect their power.

In 1995, the pendulum swung the other way and removed the procedural impediments and the only argument they have is that it isn’t ‘fair.’ Boo hoo. Turnabout is fair play.

If you really are worried about cities popping up and losing the ability to provide municipal services, maybe you should run your county that respects the fact that citizens may have choices rather than running a bloated machine propped up by the ability to impose your political will at the local and state level.

If you lock a bird in a cage and ration her food, you can’t be mad when that bird flies away to look for food the first chance she gets.
