It seems the press picked up minutes from Hull’s safety committee where they were brainstorming some ideas. This one is problematic especially considering the town of 5,500 lacks a police dept. and the county doesn’t seem enthusiastic to enforce such an onerous ordinance.

Despite living here for 30+ years, I’d never been to the Civic Center until the Princess Di exhibit (spare me the mockery; my mother-in-law wanted to go while she was visiting us). I’d assumed it would be an easy walk from the MARTA station of the same name. Not really. I was quite embarrassed by how far my mother-in-law had to walk thanks to my decision to take MARTA, and to make matters worse we had to go out of the way to avoid the “stoop” of the worst homeless shelter in the city. I’m surprised that no mention was made of that shelter in the AJC article. I’d guess it is a prime reason many avoid that location altogether.

So it seems to me that the Wisconsin town’s approach (pre-register to bike or walk on certain roads, or not at all) is a lot like structured play time for adults. First we infantalize our kids, and soon enough the government infantalizes us.
