I think the commute time was negatively impacted when Decatur changed from a K-5 neighborhood school structure to the K-3, plus 4-5. When Decatur was K-5, there were significantly fewer kids crossing the major Decatur arteries to get to school in the morning. Combine that volume with the middle and high schoolers… well, you will see a significant traffic slowdown

I don’t think people with kids make up a high proportion of commuters (but that may be a question that someone else can answer definable). It seems to me the small reduction in cars on the road during school holidays, makes for a much improved commute on those days.
