This story gets curiouser and curiouser. After confirming (we thought) that the “owner”, who had been called about this dog by another neighbor on my street a few months ago, no longer wanted the dog, I got a call this morning from the shelter that another person has come forward claiming that this is her dog. This owner lives at 285 and Ponce de Leon. The shelter will check it out, and if there are any other updates, I will let y’all know. Oh. And she claims the dog’s name is Angel. So let’s hope for a good outcome for Angel/Toni/Pecan(original name given), and that if she doesn’t already have a great home and a desperate owner wanting to find her, that she will find one.

I am so sad, I saw that there were more responses to this story when I checked this morning and was optimistic that the owner and dog had been reunited. So much for my sunny outlook. This is so upsetting to me. If I ever lost one of my dogs I would be heart broken and miserable. It would tear me up thinking my dog was out there on its own maybe getting hit by a car or hurt by someone with bad intentions, etc. That is why we have shelters. If you can’t take care of your animal, there are tons of resources out there to help. I am really bummed out about this.

That’s just heartbreaking. How can anyone just abandon a poor little creature who’s completely dependent on them? I know folk fall on hard times, but c’mon– send it to a shelter at least. I so hope someone will give sweet Toni a home…

That’s sad. I’m sorta curious how you found these folks if they didn’t want her anymore.

But more importantly, I sent Nicole, who showed in an interest in adopting Toni above, an email to let her know that she was available. Hope we can find her a home! If not, let me know and I’ll repost and notify everyone she’s up for adoption.
