Indeed, I noticed the same lack of any major club when we moved here in 2007.

That said, there are heaps of weekly rides around. They do vary a good deal.

Trish Albert collects a fair portion of "training" rides at www.sadlebred.com/atlroadrides.html.

And the Southern Bike League is still happenin', and they run a calendar (One must do a quickie "become a member" sign-in to view it.): www.bikesbl.org.

Many touring-type rides leave from in and around Decatur, too. There is a ride from Melton's App and tap on Wednesdays, I think. And, there's a Monday night ride from Avondale. These would be listed at the SBL calendar.

Last, and I know advertising is pooh-poohed in DM-land, the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition will run its yearly fund-raising ride on November 7: www.atlantabiike.org/ramble2010. It'll be a fun ride.

THere used to be something like that called the Southern Bicycle League that had its own newsletter and website. I think both exist but I'm not sure how active it is now. (My experience is from my pre-kid life). Rides go out from bike shops like Bicycle South or from known points like what used to be known as The Freight Room (now Farmstead 303).

So, I live in Winnona Park but I've been in Eugene OR for the last couple of months. Very different bike culture and I'd love to import some of that to the Atlanta area.

In Eugene yesterday, I encountered construction on a bike path that resulted in a detour onto another bike path and here, there was actually a flagger (complete with signs 'Flagger ahead') devoted to managing traffic on the bike paths.

We won't get that because part of that depends on a good amount of green space to create the paths that Atlanta doesn't have. However, there is alot of other infrastructure that we could do. One in particular is a fabulous collection of rides that was the single most importan reason that after getting to Eugene, I had to run out and buy a bike...

Wouldn't it be great to have a collection of rides like this?
