Great video !

This is what makes Decatur special - the citizens involvement / input in the future direction of our community. Let's look ahead. How do we get from where we are today, to where we want to be tomorrow?

Here's the city's official press release, hot out of my inbox...

New Decade, New Goals, New Opportunities

Decatur Kicks Off Strategic Plan Update

DECATUR, Georgia – Taking a page from its own “best practices” experience,
the City of Decatur is inviting a multi-week conversation with citizens. The
topics: What do you love about this city? And what do you want to put on the
to-do list for the next 10 years?

“We learned how effective this approach is when we shaped our last 10-year
Strategic Plan,” says Decatur City Manager Peggy Merriss. “That began back in
1998. With help from our citizens, we identified key issues and committed to
strategies to address them. Over the course of the last 10 years, we’ve
accomplished over 80 percent of our goals. That follow-through record makes
it easy for us to go back to citizens 10 years later and say, ‘Let’s do it
again.’ “

The dialog — dubbed “Where To Next?” — starts now.

First up is the launch of an interactive website dedicated to the process of
updating the Strategic Plan: www.decaturnext.com. It will be the project
bulletin board. And it’s now up and running.

The who, what, when, where and why of everything connected with the Plan
update will be on the continually updated site. Citizens interested in
volunteering for a series of focused Round Table discussions, repeating the
tried-and-true practice of 1998, can sign up on-line. And they can follow
each step of the process as it narrows community concerns to a list of
priorities for the next decade. Following each report, there’s a place for
comments and ideas. So residents can stay as plugged in as they want,
regardless of whether or not they take part in the Round Tables.
A schedule and Round Table plans will be announced soon. So check the new
site regularly.
