I have three “snow bowls” sitting out right now to get good clean snow for my ice cream. I have never tried the maple syrup approach — sounds delicious!

Nice, but the authentic method is to first boil the maple syrup and then pour designs on the snow that harden into soft candy. Yum!

However, CLEAN snow is essential for all these recipes and that can be hard to find unless one puts out clean collection pans now or we get enough snow to totally cover dirt and leaves and leave a clean top layer of snow.

Sounds great, but too much work. We’d just fill a bowl with snow, then bring it inside and pour maple syrup on it. I don’t know why that seemed to taste better then ice cream, but it did!

Children in pre-Kindergarten through grade 12 will be dismissed one hour early today, February 12, 2010, in anticipation of adverse weather conditions this afternoon. All buses will run their routes one hour earlier. College Heights birth through age 3 will close at 3 o’clock. YMCA and Decatur Children and Youth Services after school programs that includes Animal Crackers, Whiz Kids, and Project Real, will not be in session today.

Staff

Talk to your supervisor if you cannot make other arrangements. The central office will close at 3 o’clock.
