Guess the Top Decatur Metro Posts of 2009
Decatur Metro | December 30, 2009 | 5:19 pmMandated reflection time!
Anyone want to take a guess at the top 10 DM posts of 2009? (And by “top” I mean, “most clicked on”.)
Hint: Top posts often times have a lot of comments, because obviously you have to click on a post to see comments, but that isn’t a hard and fast rule. There are other ways to be #1.
Whatcha got?
One of the CSD-related threads, que no?
disappearing playground toys – if not the most clicks at least the most surprisingly bizarre and contentious.
By the way – many thanks to First Christian Church for their wonderful Christmas tree sale. Great tree, great delivery service and the display complete with lights and campfire added a nice touch of holiday spirit to the neighborhood. You’ve got our tree business from now on !
Agree that the FCC Christmas tree service and ambience were beyond belief. A real example of great customer service and quality when buying local…..whoops, wrong thread. At any rate, the home delivery included the trimming of the trunk and drilling of a hole for the spike AND bringing it inside and setting it into the tree stand. FCC prevented SO much marital strife by handling those details. (Unhandy people shouldn’t be allowed to marry one another. Luckily the kids seem to have gotten a double dose of recessive genes).
And we actually got trolls on that thread- remember the woman who kept posting under different names?
School lockdown, school lockdown and school lockdown.
Oh shoot, I’m realizing this list only accounts for posts since I moved the website. When the heck was that? May? Jeff, you’re probably right…but the lockdown isn’t showing up because of this “glitch.”
Well, taking this into account, here are some hints…
Three of the top posts have to do with crimes. (Cuba should be able to guess #2)
Two of the top 10 posts have to do with business openings/closings.
One has to do with a weather event.
One has to do with a demolition project.
One has to do with the dreaded “a” word.
Karass, #7 is actually the 5th Avenue letter surprisingly.
The #1 post didn’t generate all that many comments. It just went viral. Altmod?
Ahhhhhhhh….really? The one that contained my little exchange with Mongoose (started after I used some hefty language to call out Rusty Diamond on the carpet for making the observation that the perpetrators of the crime at issue had to have been persons of color)??? Hmmm. Odd that we never heard from our intellectual enlightener again.
You gotta spill the list, DM– it’s New Year’s Eve, already!!!
Decatur CD vs Sugarland for the win.
ABC closing and Yogurt Tap opening.
Keyboard Cat Costume for most clicks is my guess. . . .
Keyboard Cat was indeed the clear #1! The post went viral on Reddit the day after Halloween and ended up with well over 7,000 hits before all was said and done.
Also, thinking back prior to when I moved the site to the new server, I’m pretty sure #2 is the Trackside fire, which had around 6,000 hits.
City elections!
It had to be the post detailing how Wal Mart held up Decatur CD at gunpoint and threw out all the toys from the kids who were too busy running around and spoiling everyone’s dinner, forcing all the Decatur schools into lock down (even the ones that are closed).
Whether it makes the top 10 or not, hands down the best thread of 2009 was the cleaning up of the First Christian Church’s park. Some viewed it as the rant of child-obsessed parents who should have more important things to worry about, but I saw it as a quality of life issue for people building great childhood memories for their kids in a community where complaints are heard and addressed.
Happy New Year!
