And another thing …

This very website reported in May (http://www.decaturmetro.com/tag/emory-roundabout/) that the project had already gone to bid. Now, it’s reporting that the project has not yet gone to bid, but will in November.

Why the ceaseless misinformation about this project?

Are the people who continually misinform us about this process already preparing their excuses for when construction DOESN’T start in spring 2010. Remember that the project completion was supposed to be December 2006 according to the original announcement.

As I see it, one of the following two things is true: (A) The people making these announcements are being overly optimistic at the expense of providing accurate information or (B) The people making these announcements have never worked on a construction project and have no idea what they’re talking about (in which case they shouldn’t be talking at all).

thanks, my bad, that was indeed water work in the previous phase (with at least on car destroyed by a high pressure water release if I can believe the stories told by at least one shop owner in the village…)

Davis, you have any access to some actual plans? There are so many wrong ideas about what’s going to be done (I have to asume many are wrong, because they seem to contradict each other) and it sure would be nice to know some facts. Any hints?

A very big thanks to Emory university which worked a deal with Georgia Power to have the power lines placed underground. The previous work that was so disruptive was the reconstruction of the original water lines. These two projects are prerequisites for rebuilding the the sidewaks, streetscapes, plazas and roundabout

We would love to start construction tomorrow, unfortunately the project has been in Georgia DoT Hell for 5 or 6 years. The funds for design and construction were awarded in late 2002. Design work was completed and submitted in 2003 and ever since then this project has been stuck in DOT’s approval process.

And a very very big “thanks” to Georgia Power for doing the vast majority of their work overnight instead of putting us through the prior phase again, where all the phone lines were buried with all the work done during the day and having a huge impact on pedestrians, traffic, and businesses.
