I work in the same complex as Mocha Match (East Decatur Station), so I frequented the place. The service was not always super-fast, but that's as much as could be expected from a small crew. What they lacked in speed was made up for by their friendliness, which is not often found in other establishments.

I can't say this closure is a shock, mainly because of the tremendous overhead they must have had. For such a large space in City of Decatur, you HAVE to have more going on than coffee and mediocre pastries and other eats. (I'm thinking here of Java Monkey.) You also need to be open late. I go out of my way to find (free) downtown Decatur parking just to have good options - one cup o' joe, one glass of wine, a great grilled panini, beer, etc. Plus the constant live music, even when it's way too amateur and annoying....

While I loved the people over at Mocha Match, this was sadly a long time coming. Their service was notoriously slow, and their coffee was most certainly NOT good. I work nearby, so I would go in a few times a week to get my caffeine fix. It was always one of those places to pour in excessive amounts of cream & sugar to cover up the not-so-great coffee taste. It always seemed empty except the late afternoons and weekends when the space would get rented out. They also added questionable menu items, like sausage biscuits that tasted suspiciously Jimmy-Dean-ish.

You always hate to see places like this go, but in this case, there were simply better options just a block or two away. I just hope something cool goes in this space; it seems to be a pretty good location.

Too bad. It was a great place for Moms to stop after dropping their kids off at Atlanta Gymnastics Center. Not surprised. Never many folks there unless they were having one of their business seminars going on. Not sure why it didn't make it; coffee was good, space was good, although perhaps too big and the pastries were ordinary.

I've got to stop buying coffee cards in Decatur shops. Both Mocha Match and Moxie Java have gone under while I still had money on their cards. I guess I better stick to Starbucks and Caribou cards--you can use them anywhere in the country.
