May we understand that there are risks living next to them just as all of life involves risk and without risk there is no true beauty. We have lost many over the last few years due to the extreme air pollution as well as the drought and storms. Plant a tree. Support tree replacement initiatives and organizations. Trees Atlanta is one of the great local orgs we are fortunate to have associated with our community. Without its glorious trees, Atlanta/Decatur is just a wasteland. It still wasn't on at 4 when I left, but I've since had a couple of emails come through so maybe it's back on now...I think all CSD schools were out all day. Kids were unfazed.HUGE tree down over at the Frasier Center in back of the high school. Their power flickered but luckily didn't go out (lots of babies and toddlers!). But the enormous tree took out a car on the way down. Came within inches of the fence surrounding the playground. Power was out at Agnes Scott all day long. A number of intersections and streets are closed including: West Ponce de Leon is closed at the Parkwoods; East Ponce de Leon is closed at Glendale Avenue; the 600 block of South Candler at Kirk Road is closed; 2nd Avenue at Oakview; and Mimosa at Kirk Road. All of these locations have downed power lines and Georgia Power has called in their tree contractor to remove the trees and limbs in order to minimize additional line damage. Several Georgia Power crews are working in the city in order to restore power as soon as possible. Wanted to update you re: street closings.
