Well given that [edited] Bruce Cohen owns the building where Trackside/5th Earl resided, the likelihood of either relocating to the same place is slim. Best for them to try to get out of their respective leases and move somewhere else.

I was not a frequenter of the Trackside, but we hit 5th Earl all the time. Best sandwiches in Decatur, and one of our favorite joints in Atlanta. This really saddens me. I sincerely hope they can rebuild in the current location or reopen in another.

Hmmm. The original Corner Pub space is vacant. It’s by the side of the tracks. And then the Smoothie joint in that block of stores is gone, and might not be a bad space for a gourmet sandwich shop. The mind boggles at the possibilities.

Just got an e-mail from Robert Elrod (father of the owner of the CP), who has established a Trackside Employee Fund.

Here’s what I posted at the Trackside group page on Facebook, as well as on inDECATUR:

Robert Elrod has set up the Trackside Employee Fund to help those out of work. Make checks to Trackside Employee Fund and mail to: Decatur First Bank; Attn: Ann Berg / 1120 Commerce Dr. / Decatur, Ga. 30030; or bring cash or checks to the Corner Pub on E. College east of ACE Hardware. Pls. help if you can spare a few bucks. Every little bit adds up.

There couldn’t be a worse time for a pub employee to suddenly be out of work. As you know, many pubs are struggling to stay afloat, some are folding, and few are hiring.

I wish they’d set up the benefits to help the employees of both Trackside and the 5th Earl, but so far that’s not happening. Hopefully similar things will happen for the 5th Earl, as you suggest.
