We are pet friendly at Whit’s End. My Greyhound Candi spends most days here with me, and loves visitors of the human and canine kind, as do I. There is a water bowl outside.

The optometrist’s wife at Eyeworks of Decatur bakes dog biscuits to give to customers, so I would presume the animals themselves are welcomed inside.

We’ve brought our 25ish lb dog into nearly every store (that doesn’t regularly serve food) in Decatur without a problem. We never bring him into restaurants (though he has taken advantage of lounging all over many of the fine patios adjacent to such establishments) and I think it would be some sort of health code violation anyway. We’ve only ever been asked to take him out of one retail store, and for what it’s worth, we never set foot in there again.

We also let dogs visit at Mingei. They love sniffing out smells from around the world!

Stephen at Taste fills me in…

At Taste we always allow dogs inside. Many of our customers bring their dogs to our store for gourmet dog treats or to try on collars. Especially on hot days people like to bring in their dogs so they can lay down on the cool concrete floor. My husky loves it. We’ve been pet friendly since 2002.

We love the furry friends at Heliotrope. We’ve even been tempted to get a monkey when one customer brought in a little one in a baby blanket.

This isn’t based on personal experience (as I don’t have a dog), but the posting about Eyeworks detailed elsewhere on this site states:

“”For those passing by with their four-legged friends, the Optometrist’s wife bakes dog biscuits and are happy to share them with anyone that stops in”

Maybe it was just something they did when they first opened? I’ll leave it to a four legged friend owner to confirm.

Mary, I don’t think that’s the case for our Starbucks. I’ve been in there on two occasions when someone came in with a tiny accessory dog tucked in their coat. Both times they were asked to go back outside.

To their credit, though, the counter crew did walk the person’s order out to them…
