Well, I checked them out recently. I went because my current glasses (from a well known chain) had a lens that kept popping out. I went back to them they tried to tell me it was my prescription in the particular frame that was the problem and suggested I purchase a new pair. (By the way, they helped me choose the frame.)

Turns out that lens was cut improperly (I think thats the proper term) - which the optician at Eyeworks of Decatur showed me. He corrected this for me and now I can wear these glasses without fear of losing the lens. He saved me from getting an entire new pair, which I thought I would have invest in. Eyeworks of Decatur has earned my trust and I plan on going there for my next exam and glasses.

Dem, I think you missed the point. This is not an IPOD that you can buy online or at the Apple Store. The expertise put into making the correct pair of glasses is much more than a frame. Its the right lens type, the coatings, the individual grinding of the lenses and so much more.

How can you possibly know what is best for your vision and perscription through one of these intenet eyeglasses sites? There is no expert to guide you. This is a health item.

I dont know if this person found or didnt find the "exact frame" or just any frame at a price he liked. Like I said earlier, I thought I was smarter and wound up with "counterfeit" frames" filled with the wrong perscription when I shopped for eyeglasses on the web. I think that this customer is giving this store a bad rap that they don't deserve.

I dont know about eyes and prescriptions but I do know that they are all unique. I tried the Internet route. It is a BAD BAD idea. I now have so much more respect for an optician who has to not only be educated in the field but licensed. Those that think anyone can do that job are dead wrong. They pay a ton not only for their education and field but equipment, that they use to perform these measurements.

Anyone who begrudges a business for charging for work so that a person can give that business to someone else is delusional. Why didnt he have the internet take his measurements?? This person got a deal on the measurement he was complaining about. The optical practice I went to so I could too, buy over the Internet, charged me $50 bucks.

Joanne, his point is that he could buy the exact same glasses online for far less money, not that he could find inferior and less expensive products on-line. If true, it's a very valid point. It's great to have local businesses, but the mere fact that they are local doesn't mean it's a good idea to charge 4x online prices.

I hate when people compare what is incomparable. Comparing Eyeworks of Decatur to buying glasses over the Internet is like comparing a hamburger at Burger King to one at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse and saying Ruth’s Chris was too expensive because BK’s burger was only $1.

If you only care about "the cheapest", you can find glasses for $8.99 on the web too. Good luck, I too tried the web only to receive counterfeit frames with the wrong perscription in them.

I went to Eyeworks of Decatur and had a GREAT exprience. I found the staff knowledgable in explaining options that would HELP my vision. The purchase was ultimately my choice and I didnt find them expensive or pushy. I LOVE my glasses.

Eyeworks of Decatur has really nice, cool and unusual frames - not junky like many of the other eyeglasses stores I have been to. Best of all, they really know their stuff - and ARE LOCAL.

If everyone in Decatur had the attitude that this person did, every business in Decatur would be out of business. I support and recommend Eyeworks of Decatur.

RIP-OFF CENTRAL! I live right above this office so I went in for an eye exam. The price of the eye exam is reasonable ($114 for glasses and contacts). The doctor was very nice and personable. My only problem is with the sales staff. They were extremely pushy and try to upsell everything. They'll tell you that it's absolutely necessary to get the higher priced lenses. They'll charge for scratch resistant lenses (something I've never had to pay for.)

First off, their prices are EXTRAORDINARILY high. I had put in a purchase for a pair of glasses for about $400, only to find that I could buy them online for $107. I immediately cancelled my order. Unfortunately, when I went back to get my pupil distance written on my prescription, the sales person informed me that they don't offer that service along with the eye exam. (FYI - they had already measured by pupil distance for the initial order, but didn't write it on my prescription.) They ended up charging me $20 for a pupil distance measurement that took less than 10 seconds. (I checked my watch!) This is the first time in my life I've ever experienced this and absolutely absurd. I'm guessing because I refused to purchase glasses from them at 4x the price, they were trying to get money out of me any way they could. (I should also add that when I initially told them that I would be purchasing my contacts online, the guy told me they sold contacts for the same price as online. I asked him the price for Acuvue Daily Moist and he told me $40 a box. I get them online for $22.)

I would go to this office for an eye exam, but would never buy contacts or eyeglasses there. They will try to upsell you as much as they can and scare you into thinking that purchasing online is a bad idea, which it's not. You can save tons of money elsewhere!
