Well, Gwen. This area at Clairemont and N. Decatur is not all commercial. I have lived here for 20 years and I did not purchase my condo in
City of Decatur because I can’t afford the extra taxes, and have never had any children to attend Decatur Schools. I don’t shop in Decatur. I don’t want Decatur services, and I certainly don’t want to pay for City of Decatur taxes. This annexation proposal is a greedy land and money grab that will hit some of the least affluent citizens in this area in order to support some of the most affluent Decatur citizens’ tax bills.

I vote every chance I get. three, four times per election when I can. sometimes more.

Before I go changing the world, I am going to discuss what I think are problems. Here. In forums elsewhere. Any way I choose.

If you have a problem with that then that’s a darn shame.

Kathy, I would suggest that if you are opposed to the annexation, you get together with some other folks in Forrest Hills and some of us in Midway Woods ASAP. Also, it wouldn’t be a terrible idea to pull in the folks in Decatur itself who are opposed to the annexation (strange bedfellows, I know).

Get together and oppose this thing with the DeKalb delegation. If the delegation hears from enough citizens, they won’t support the legislation needed for the annexation, and the whole train stops there. If you can’t convince them, work on your neighbors to get the thing voted down when it comes up on the ballot. We can stop the annexation if we get organized. If we don’t get organized now.. this thing will run over us b/c the proponents of annexation are very organized and quite savvy.

taxus, I’m not saying you can’t rant – just put all that energy to good use – like presenting concrete, workable proposals for reducing taxes. BTW, you still didn’t answer the question about voting.

taxus…I never said you couldn’t rant…that was Steve. Lord I’d put myself out of the “blog business” if I said that.

But now that you mention it…if you want to help me out, I would prefer it if you didn’t comment in separate posts when responding to multiple people …just because it pushes comments off the “recent comments” on the front page faster…and with the number of comments I get here, it is kind of an issue I haven’t been able to adequately resolve.

I do love a good circle-dance! Those folks don’t know what they’re missing! Yeehaw!

Taxus, you didn’t answer my question, you just dodged it.

As I have stated before, if you don’t like the way the City is run, do something about it. Get an appointment to a commission or board, run for office, use the public comment period at a City Commission meeting. Use your energy for something beside ranting.
