The DHS Close Up Club applied for two grants, one from a private foundation that helped us in the past and the other from the Decatur Beer Festival. Both turned us down. The plan is that parents will pay the balance by the 30th and we will continue to raise funds through December to pay parents back as much as possible. Many of the students have raised quite a bit of money through our service projects. Right now, we have 17 students who are fully paid or close to it. I expect ten more students to make the the final payment by tomorrow (Tuesday 9/30). Its going to be close but I think most of the kids will make it. We hope to take a team of thirty students and three chaperons to Washington. Keep your fingers crossed!
The students and parents of the DHS Close Up Club appreciate all the help that Decatur Metro readers have provided. "These are the times that try our souls...But the harder the fight, the more glorious the final victory." I don't know who wrote that but it describes what the club is trying to do, as well as the difficult times ahead for our country. We will make it through this. This may sound old-fashioned to some of the readers but may God continue to bless the students, parents and citizens of this great city.

Thanks for giving the DHS Close Up Club some space. I haven't seen the totals yet, but we may have raised over $800. Thanks to Eddie Owen, Eddies Attic, and all who came to support us in our efforts to bring 30 DHS students to Washington for the Inauguration. If you would like to make a donation to support the students or need more information, please contact me at cbillingsley@csdecatur.net
PS- We have plenty of Chick-Fil-A calendars to sell!
