Mingei will be somewhat of a circus during the Book Festival-- in a good way! Besides the event with Daryn Kagan on Saturday, there will be a number of other things going on.

Like books and folk art? I just got back from Mexico, where the library we raised money for in the carving village of La Union was opened. I brought back more folk art figures of readers by the carvers of this village, La Union, which we will be exhibiting and selling. 20% of the sales of those will go to support the library. They really are wonderful and a number of carvers whose work was not available for our July 29th fundraising event will now be on view-- and for sale!

Want another cause, or a new T? This weekend Mingei will debut a new line of T-shirts, Dialogue, which benefit CARE and the Enough Foundation. Each shirt features a fact about a global issue of concern and has a mini-CD attached which explains the issue and provides info on how to be involved. A portion of sales go to benefit the NGO's involved.

At 11:30 on Saturday morning, Elizabeth Dulemba , illustrator of the charming children's book Paco and the Giant Chile will be demonstrating her drawing.

At noon on Sunday, come by and chill and check out a new Mandala Coloring book at Mingei-- a meditative artful experience for adults which might be quite welcome by this time during a very busy weekend.

This Festival is a great boon to local merchants. Thanks to Daren Wang and his crew for being so open to letting local businesses participate!
