Cutting Holes in 315 W. Ponce
Decatur Metro | April 25, 2008 | 8:45 amWalked past the 315 W. Ponce office tower today and saw construction crews cutting large holes, which I assume will be windows, into the first floor, Ponce Pl. elevation of the building. A peek inside looked like a basement.
I wonder what they will be showing off through those windows. [UPDATE: Cherie gives us the answer in the comments section]
The preservationist in me cringes, while the realist recognizes that it is a pretty unfriendly building from the sidewalk. I better get used to it. It’s just the first of many changes to this site over the coming monthsyears.
The more I look at this building, the more I like it especially for the place in history this type of architechture has. I think it has a lot of potential similar to what was done to the Standard Oil building in downtown LA to be come the ultra-hip Standard downtown Hotel.
I agree Christian…it’s taken me a good, long while to warm up to this building, but it has a very distinct, classic international style not often seen in metro Atlanta.
I wonder what DOCOMOMO thinks about these changes.
According to Bob Day, one of the owners of 315 W. Ponce, at the April 23rd meeting with the city, developers and “working group”, Keller Williams Realtors will be moving into the space being renovated on the 1st floor.
Wow…ok. Thanks Cherie! Any other updates on the development from that meeting?
fyi, the developer did a great job rehabbing what was a ugly office building on peachtree at +/-14 street.
