This has been a really confusing story to follow…I wouldn’t be that surprised if it DID reopen under the same name.

I just noticed in the City Commission minutes that a Darren Comer was issued a liquor license on the 17th for that property, in the name of “The Angel.” Could it be that Comer might continue under the existing Angel banner or was it just an expeditious way to get the license, with new identity to come later?

The property wasn’t owned by Derek Lawford but he holds the lease for the space. Our understanding is that he was attempting to sublease the space because he’s still legally responsible for making the lease payments.

The building that housed The Angel was not owned by Derek Lawford or his companies.
I believe the building is part of the same parcel as Gypsy Camp (but the Dekalb assessor’s site is down so I can’t confirm it). It might be owned by Dan Thompson of Lawrenceville (The Thompson Wine Group: Wine South Festival/Wine Report) who owns the Gypsy Camp internet domain.
