Just came across this. Jake’s is not closing…in fact, it is the anchor of the new McDonough Street Market at the same address Jake’s has occupied for the last three years. I am told that the market is Jake’s brainchild…a small business incubator focused mainly on woman in the arts. It’s a great experience to be able to find locally made art, craft and fashion and enjoy the world’s best ice cream at the same time.

To answer your questions: We haven’t heard anything yet on what will move into the old Little Shop of Stories space.

In regards to Jakes, the previous postings about El Tesoro moving into the “old Jakes” location isn’t in reference to where Jake’s currently resides. It’s actually the old converted house on the southern end of Church street. There’s a picture of it in this post.

I’m very excited to see the expansion of these stores and good use of the old Bank (although I had always thought a small local movie theater there with just two screens–one with Decatur family-friendly fare and one with arty/independent/foreign films would be cool)!
I might have missed it on the blog but what is happening to the old space where Little Shop/Jake’s used to be? Is the new Mexican restaurant filing both spaces (the menu looks great, btw)? Is Jake’s closing?
At one point we had only the DQ for ice cream and then we had Ashton’s, Jake’s, Cold Stone, and DQ. This is a big ice cream town. With DQ probably closing temporarily due to construction, where will we eat ice cream this summer???
By the way, love the blog. Just came across it recently.
