Hey, Aaron, I guess you would rather have parking lots instead of commercial and residential infill? That is what most of the new construction replaced.

BTW, there IS a height restriction in Decatur - I believe it's 80 feet, and that hasn't been ignored since it was put in place. I recall that one building was granted a small (<10 foot) variance.

As for businesses closing, economics are tight right now, but businesses come and businesses go and that's always how it will be. That issue was previously discussed at length on this forum.

And, how exactly is the rest of the City being ignored?

Exactly. Adding extra students into the school system does seem to be a 'devil in the details' scenario.

When will the city take focus on what's actually going on within its borders? It seems that Decatur officials are doing everything they can to turn this peaceful burg into Midtown, what with all the height restrictions ignored, infill continuing at a bizarre pace downtown, numerous businesses closing in a very short period of time, higher taxes being tossed about, and meanwhile the rest of the "City of Decatur" goes largely ignored.

Physician, heal thyself!
