I live in the City of Avondale Estates (which I think is a wonderful city) so I am not affected by the annexation. I were though I would be for it 100%. I think it is a great opportunity for people who live in unincorporated areas near Avondale/Decatur to have a better opportunity to influence their growth and finally have a government that hears them. Dekalb Co. Government is a 800lb gorilla and these small areas targeted for annexation get no respect. My only reservation and regret is that the City of Avondale didn't move first.
Oh yeah, for those with kids, Decatur schools are a step up in my opinion!
Good Luck Decatur!

I own and live in a home located in the study area. While we might remain in the minority, my wife and I are extremely excited about this proposal. We live in Decatur Terrace between Winnona Park and Avondale Estates, this is often referred to as "No Man's Land". An annexation of our beloved area means more to us than just a "higher tax rate". We invested in this area several years ago with the hopes that this would some day take place. Now with 2 young kids coming of age, I would easily pay triple my current tax if that meant a better school system. Forrest Hills elementary school is scheduled to close in a few short years.

An anexation of this area means a better environment, less neighborhood riff raff, and a cleaner business district. I mean how many used car lots and run down muffler shops can one district endure? And for the rising amount of vacant homes in the area, an annexation would most certianly lure those interested in reaping the benefits of the city as well as exposing the potential of the area.

We've talked to several neighbors that feel the same way that we do. I could see this proposal passing quite easily. BRING IT ON!!

Thanks David...it was actually kind of an elusive document. The link on the Oakhurst message board actually links to the wrong page of the CDS agenda...so I had to look through a bunch of meeting notes until I found the referenced presentation.
