Keeping the AJC Honest/Factually Accurate

May 1, 2009 | 8:34 am

Sorry to be the gnat in your face AJC, but…

Scott sends in a pic of one of your blurbs this morning that REALLY gets the Waffle House museum story backwards…

waffe-house-story

As we all know, the original Waffle House along E. College Ave was turned into a museum back in September, prior to its nomination for historic status, which was approved on April 28th (thanks to Jay for this tidbit).

UPDATE: Fellow Decatur blogger Rusty Tanton alerts us that he’s got pics and a real interesting report from the Waffle Open House.  Thanks Rusty!

The AJC reports that the very first Waffle House on E. College, which has been converted into a museum by the company, will be open and free to the public tomorrow from 10a-6p.

Let me just go on record to say that this whole restoration is very cool.  A little bit of lost local history has been restored.

I wonder how many people will now pull up for a bite, only to realize its a private museum with no real waffles.

Waffle House #1 Opens As Museum This Week

September 2, 2008 | 9:16 am

A lot of restaurants have come and gone around Decatur and Avondale Estates since the mid-1950s, but one went on to take over the entire South.

This morning the AJC has an excellent article/interview with the original owners of Waffle House, who recently revisited Waffle House #1, which sits on East College between Decatur and Avondale.  After posing as a Chinese Food restaurant for the past 20 years, the building has been restored by Waffle House into a company museum.

What a great local story.

UPDATE: More Museum photos HERE!
