Eater just published a map-listicle(?) of the 18 “essential” bars in and around Atlanta.
The list runs the gamut from iconic dive bars like Clermont Lounge and Northside Tavern, to hipster hangs like Holeman & Finch and The Porter, to Atlanta classics like Manuel’s and Atkins Park.
Decatur rounds out the final 4 spots on the list with the following Decatur establishments:
- The Pinewood
- Brick Store Pub
- Leon’s Full Service
- Kimball House
And not to be the guy who closes his posts with a question in a desperate attempt to drum up conversation, BUT.. “Looking at the breadth of the full list, would you have included other Decatur watering holes on this list??”

The website Eater recently ranked the Top 30 “Hottest” Cocktail bars in the country and Decatur’s The Kimball House made the cut. Their blurb reads…
Kimball House opened its doors in Decatur in late September, one of Eater Atlanta’s most anticipated Fall openings. Along with an inspired food menu, cocktails here have gained enormous buzz over the past month thanks to the involvement of Leon’s Full Service’s Miles Macquarrie. Kimball House has already gotten great early feedback from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and snagged a new bartender over from Atlanta’s Holeman & Finch.
BSP’s Dave Blanchard sends in a bit more detail on the coming “Kimball House” in the old Decatur Depot, which we announced last week. Sounds like this new restaurant and bar is truly a group effort…
The Kimball House project is a partnership between the owners of Brick Store Pub and LEONs Full Service in Decatur along with long time employees and friends: Miles Macquarrie (LEONs Full Service), Matt Christison, Bryan Rackley (Brick Store Pub), and Jesse Smith (Victory Sandwich).
