MARTA Overpass Mural Work Resumes; West Trinity Closed Until Next Week

You may have already noticed, but work on the beautiful MARTA Overpass mural has resumed!

Asst. City Manager Linda Harris writes on The Decatur Minute

Felici Asteinza and Joey Fillastre (the artists that make up the Milagros Collective) will begin painting on Saturday, April 1 at 9 a.m.  They will paint each day from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. from April 1 – April 9.  West Trinity Avenue will be closed to through traffic near the overpass so that they will have safe access in order to paint the rest of the mural.

The following vehicles will be allowed to enter through the locations:  vehicles going and coming from 700 Atlanta Ave., vehicles going and coming to the Decatur Police Dept. or Decatur Municipal Court, delivery drivers for Trinity Walk, employees and visitors of the Task Force for Global Health.  Trinity Walk residents should enter and exit the complex via W. Trinity Place at Waters Street.

Linda also notes that the “the dedication and celebration of the community mural and new playspace” will be on Sunday, April 23rd.  More details coming on that front soon.

Decatur Looking For Artist To Paint MARTA Overpass Mural

Back in September 2015, you may recall that Decatur won a $15,000 Atlanta Regional Commission grant to paint a mural on the Trinity Avenue MARTA overpass next to the Beacon Hill complex.  In December, the city held a community kick-off meeting to get input on the mural.

Now the city is looking for an artist to make this project a reality.

The Decatur Arts Alliance is requesting qualifications from artists who are interested in creating the mural.  The project will pay the artist $7,500 for their work.

If interested, there is LOTS more info on the project HERE.
