Anonymous Tip Leads Police To Alleged Emory Robbers

March 3, 2010 | 5:49 pm

The AJC reports…

Police in DeKalb County have arrested two men in connection with a robbery Monday of five Emory University students.

An anonymous tip led detectives to Jonathan Ajizian and Cirilo Ramos, a DeKalb police spokesman said.

Ajizian was arrested Monday, and Ramos was arrested Tuesday, Officer Jason Gagnon said Wednesday. They each were charged with five counts of armed robbery and were being held at the county jail, he said.

Thanks to Steve to pointing this out!

Five Emory Students Tied Up and Robbed at Gunpoint

March 2, 2010 | 10:05 am

From the Emory Wheel yesterday…

Five Emory students were robbed at gunpoint at their residence on North Druid Hills Road Thursday at approximately 2:30 a.m., according to DeKalb County Police Department reports.

According to police reports, two masked male subjects entered the residence at 2497 North Druid Hills Rd. with weapons and tied up the five individuals inside, all of whom have been confirmed as Emory students.

The two masked subjects ransacked the home during the next three hours and stole items such as televisions, laptops, an undetermined amount of cash and assorted valuables, according to the police report.

According to Mekka Parish, public information officer at DeKalb County Police Department, one of the students involved in the incident was struck with a gun by one of the intruders.

According to the Wheel, DeKalb Police do not believe that this was a “random event.”  Nevertheless, quite frightening.

Two Druid Hills Robberies Have Emory on Alert

October 27, 2009 | 11:35 am

Emory just sent out this crime report [via Clairmont Heights Civic Assoc], which many of the major news outlets are now rewriting into little story blurbs.

October 26, 2009. To the Emory Community: This message is being provided to the Emory community as a public service. Two crimes recently were reported as occurring outside of the University’s campus, but the locations were close enough that we wanted to alert you to exercise caution when in those areas, particularly after dark.

• On Sunday, October 25, at approximately 9 p.m., an Emory student reported being robbed at gunpoint in front of her apartment building at Clairmont Reserve Apartments, across from the Clairmont Campus. The woman, whose purse was stolen, was not physically harmed. The assailant escaped in a red, two-door vehicle. A description of the assailant was not available.

• On Friday, October 23, at approximately midnight, a woman reported being robbed at gunpoint on the sidewalk in front of 1450 N. Decatur Rd near the Oakdale Rd. intersection. The woman, whose purse was stolen, was not physically harmed. The two assailants were described as:

• A black male, about 30 years old, 6’4”, 170 lbs., green shirt, light-colored pants;

• A black male, 6’0”, light-colored jeans, white/blue/red plaid shirt, white skull cap with blue stripe.

Both incidents are being handled by the DeKalb Police Department. Anyone having information relevant to these incidents is encouraged to call the DeKalb Police Department at 770-724-7850.

In juxtaposition to that, my weekly email from CrimeReports.com shows no real crime inside the Decatur city-limits in the past week. Apparently the email isn’t all that accurate in reporting what’s actually on the map.
