Getting Your Mouse on Campaign Disclosures

March 1, 2010 | 12:27 pm

Over on the AJC, retired reporter Jim Walls of Atlanta Unfiltered writes of the ongoing difficulties of obtaining political campaign disclosures for various Atlanta metro candidates.

“Last week, I paid $6 to park and pick up disclosures for Atlanta’s mayor and City Council.

The municipal clerk’s office is supposed to open at 8:30 a.m. I sat on the floor outside until someone unlocked the door 20 minutes later. Then I was told that the guy who could burn the files to a CD wasn’t in, so I needed to come back later.”

Neil Dobbs Files For District 1 Commission Run

June 17, 2009 | 12:24 pm

Carl confirms my out of left field guess for the semi-secret candidate who had been considering a run for District 1 commissioner and had yet to announce.  Zoning Board of Appeals member and Allstate agent Neil Dobbs has now officially joined the District 1 race that includes incumbent Fred Boykin and James Radford.

Carl notes that Dobbs has the support of Scott Drake and DBA president Ann Berg.

“Elect Kyle Williams” Website Goes Live

June 10, 2009 | 3:02 pm

Kyle Williams just sent out a note announcing that his official city commission run website, ElectKyleWilliams.com, is now up and running.  The site features a 3 1/2 minute YouTube video of Williams detailing his campaign platform, a bio, and ways that you can follow and contribute to his campaign to be District 2’s new city commissioner.

Read Kyle’s note to supporters after the jump.

P.S. Carl beat Kyle to sending me his press release.  :-)

P.P.S. Also, did you know that Kyle is a blogger?  ‘Tis true.

Kyle Gets More Press

May 1, 2009 | 9:03 am

This time its Southern Voice who profiles Kyle Williams’ District 2 run.

The article focuses mainly on broader LGBT issues, but still gives a couple of specific examples of things he would attempt to implement on the local level if elected.

“Decatur is such a blessed place because it is so progressive,” he said. “We want leaders who will push the envelope. We were one of the first cities in the state to pass a non-discrimination [including sexual orientation and gender identity] statement. It needs to be updated because the language is old and I’m talking to Jeff Graham of Georgia Equality about that.”

If elected, Williams plans to ensure gay issues are at the forefront as well as managing the development of Decatur. He also wants to make sure those under the Gold Dome knows Decatur deserves attention for funding opportunities as well.

…

“Sometimes our leaders are too quiet on issues and you really want them to speak out because their district will support them.

“Decatur can be a regional leader on LGBT issues respectively and without controversy. We’re often called the Berkley of Atlanta. I say let’s take this pony out and ride it and do some good stuff.
