Decatur Metro Wins Creative Loafing’s “Best of Atlanta” Award

September 23, 2009 | 9:58 am

I’m tearing up over here.  From Creative Loafing’s Best of ATL ‘09…

Critics Pick

Best local blog: Decatur Metro

Frustrated that metro Atlanta’s most walkable burg didn’t have its own daily news source, the quasi-anonymous resident behind DECATUR METRO decided to take matters into his own hands. Little did he know that his first post in September 2007 would give birth to the city’s most prolific news source. Half community newsletter, half sounding board for city issues, Decatur Metro is hyperlocal to the core. Daily posts — which are really closer to conversations — have probed the enigmatic aroma that wafts through Your DeKalb Farmers Market, protested the strange garbage juice leaking from a downtown Dumpster, and even veered into coverage about the city’s school system and annexation proposals. The site has become such a destination that even city officials chime in on discussions and answer questions. For his nose for news, clever writing, and creating a needed community, we raise a glass of the Brick Store’s finest. www.decaturmetro.com.

Thanks CL!  While my ego undeniably loves the attention, what really makes me grin is that you guys get it.

Cheers!

Creative Loafing “Best of Atlanta” Voting Ends Tomorrow

July 30, 2009 | 3:45 pm

If you’ve yet to vote in Creative Loafing’s “Best of Atlanta” poll for all things Decatur, you only have one day and roughly 8 hours left to do so.

In addition to “best blog” and “best blogger” (found at the bottom of the Cityscape section), I’m hoping DM can produce surprise victories in “overrated thing about Atlanta”, “local rabble-rouser”, “street character” and “person you hate to love”.

Creative Loafing “Best of Atlanta” Voting Begins Today

July 8, 2009 | 1:06 pm

The ballot for this year’s Creative Loafing “Best of Atlanta” awards just went live!

Click over to the ballot page on the Creative Loafing site or on Facebook to vote Decatur for all categories!  Best Suburb? Decatur!  Best Beach Retreat?  Decatur!  Best Neighborhood to Live in Without a Car?  Decatur!

But seriously, head on over and vote for all your favorite Atlanta spots/people/things among 5 categories: “Cityscape”, “Poets, Artists & Madmen”, “After Dark”, “Oral Pleasures”, and “Consumer Culture.”   And FYI, you have to fill out a minimum of 10 slots in order to submit your vote.

And if you’re at all interested in showing DM a little love, you’ll find the “best blog/blogger” and “best blogger” entries near the very bottom of the “Cityscape” section. :-)

XOXO in advance.

Decatur Metro Wins "Best of Atlanta" Award

November 24, 2008 | 1:36 pm

In case you haven’t seen the latest issue of Atlanta Magazine, Decatur Metro and InDecatur have been awarded Atlanta Magazine’s 2008 “Best of Atlanta” award for “best neighborhood news”!

Along with Catherine and Lauren’s AsianCajuns, which won “best local style blog”, Decatur is very well-represented in the online section of the awards this year.

I had been holding onto this story until I could get my hands on a hard copy of the mag, but Catherine spilled the beans over at The Decatur Minute earlier today, so I thought I better just get it out there!

Oh, and make sure to click over to The Minute to check out all the brick-and-mortar Decatur winners!

Congrats all!

UPDATE: Here’s the blurb…

“InDecatur and Decatur Metro’s prespectives on this DeKalb berg may differ slightly – “The town you’d get if you bred Berkeley with Mayberry” and “An independent voice in an independent city,” respectively – but what these two blogs offer does not: copious posts on anything and everything Decatur.  Want to know what type of restaurant is opening on East Ponce?  InDecatur will provide an annotated photo of the space, along with the inside scoop gathered by intrepid sources (aka fellow Decaturites).  Want an update on development issues, such as with the citywide Wi-Fi will be in effect?  Decatur Metro will contact the city manager.”

Actually I’d contact Andrea. :-)
