Nice to see so many Decatur students get involved with the stop school shootings movement. In general, my children and the classmates of my children that I talk to seem a lot more thoughtful than I remember myself and my classmates being when I was their age–although that’s a low bar to clear.
Peach State Opera will be having a fundraiser on Sunday, March 18, 7p.m., at Lawrenceville Road United Methodist Church located at 3142 Lawrenceville Hwy, Tucker, GA 30084 as part of the church’s “Music for Missions” programming. Peach State Opera is a touring company that shares the thrill of live opera with small communities in Georgia and its surrounding states by presenting exciting, portable, and abridged English-language productions. They have just completed their eighth season, which featured a production of Rossini’s Cinderella. PSO toured to six different venues this season including four repeat venues in Clarkston, Jonesboro, Brunswick, and Corbin in Kentucky. The Company is looking forward to their 2018–19 season of Puccini’s La Boheme, which kicks off in September.
The program starts and ends with party choruses celebrating life, love, and champagne. Also featured are arias from Peach State Opera’s past productions and a hint of our next season’s La Boheme with Musetta’s aria, the well-loved “Quando m’en vo.” The Selections will be sung in their original languages.
The five performers are also gifted recitalists that are actively involved in the Atlanta area. The Gershwin Songbook and Friends of the South portions include some of their favorite song literature. The program will also include brief narration of foreign language selections.
I live in an older house here in Decatur. Recently I have been needing some basic maintenance done; handy man and painting. So I follow the recommendations I see here. Hawk and Hammer has been recommended for handy man several times. Jay Gulman has been suggested for painting. I contacted them both by e-mail and v-mail several times and never heard back from either. So my question is, is this normal? Do y’all have problems with getting contractors to respond or am I just going about this the wrong way? How do y’all source these sort of services and get qualified tradespersons? Can anyone offer any other recommendations?
Second unrelated question: what is the status of the old Cooks Warehouse location? There was talk of Savi moving in but I haven’t seen anything in that space for months now.
Savi has been working on the buildout for the past three weeks or so.
In “Love, Simon,” the Decatur Dancing Goats has a Drive-thru.
Also, it’s a great movie. My kids practically had to drag me to the theater, but I ended up enjoying it.
Anyone have a recommendation for a company that polishes concrete floors? We have a finished basement and were are looking to polish the concrete floor. Also will take any recommendations for a carpenter/handyman who will take on small jobs. Thanks.
