CANCELLED: City To Close West Ponce Friday For Holiday Movie Night

The City sent out this note to West Ponce residents and businesses…

The first ever Holiday Movie Night is coming to West Ponce! It will be held on Friday, December 8, from 5:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m. and is free to the public. This is a new event and we talked to a number of West Ponce business owners early in the planning process to make sure it was a good fit for the area. The West Ponce Holiday Movie Night offers an opportunity for the community to come together, experience the west side of downtown Decatur, and support the local businesses.

This memo is to update you regarding the logistics for the night. The event will be held on West Ponce de Leon Avenue between the 335 parking garage entrance and Café Lily. This will allow for cars to detour on Ponce de Leon Place and Fairview Avenue. The street will be closed at 3 p.m. on Friday in preparation for the screen to be set-up by Southern Outdoor Cinemas. This will be the only road closure for this event. An electronic sign will be set up on December 1 to notify drivers about the closure. Police will reroute traffic during the event and staff will be on hand to help with pedestrian traffic.

Please note that it is against City of Decatur ordinance to advertise “Drinks to Go” during events. Selling beverages outside of your businesses is not allowed as your permit does not allow the point of sale to be outside. If you have a patio, you may sell drinks on your patio as usual. The police will be monitoring alcohol sales.

We appreciate your flexibility as we work together for a successful West Ponce Holiday Movie Night and thank you in advance for your cooperation. Contact Shirley Baylis at 470-755- 4693 or email [email protected] if you have any questions or need more information.

  1. Good idea. Maybe you need to add a note at the beginning of the article or in the headline saying CANCELLED.
