Decatur Commission Funds Construction of South Columbia Section of “East Decatur Greenway”

Apparently I’m all about the multimodal renderings this week!

At Monday’s meeting, the Decatur City Commission approved $40,000 to fund the construction of the South Columbia portion of the Decatur Greenway.  The section runs past the Friends School on South Columbia and will connect the “almost completed” Katie Kerr portion of the Greenway that runs behind the United Methodist Children’s Home – which the city is currently working to purchase – to a community park at the southern end of the Greenway.

As shown in the map below, the Greenway will terminate at the the Avondale MARTA Station and mixed use development at the northern end.

The total cost is estimated at $80,000, but the PATH Foundation has agreed to fund half of the cost, according to a letter from Deputy City Manager Hugh Saxon.

  1. How does this relate to the proposed Dearborn Park Trail. They seem to be in an uproar because Path Foundation hasn’t promised to remediate the area or protect the wildlife in the area. https://www.facebook.com/FriendsOfDearbornPark/posts/1012182245560587
